SUMMARYThe Manufacturing Engineer Technician for the Harlan CoE works with the manufacturing teams and engineering staff to develop and implement manufacturing methods and processes that will produce product in conformance to engineering specifications at the lowest cost possible. The Manufacturing Engineering Technician is responsible for continuous improvement projects and efforts that will improve production efficiency and productivity and reduce manufacturing costs across all Harlan CoE product lines. The Manufacturing Engineering Technician is responsible for establishing initial production costs and production cost/time standards and then making improvements in production processes to reduce said costs and cycle times. The Manufacturing Engineering Technician will establish process methods and routings for all products produced in the Harlan CoE. The Manufacturing Technician will be responsible for reviewing all engineering specifications and manufacturing related master data created in SAP for accuracy thru ER (Engineering Request) review and approval.ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.During the production cycle, ensures all information related to product requirements is available to production thru SAP outputs and assure that routing information is established/created, and work instructions have been properly added to the production orders in SAP to instruct assembly associates in proper assembly of product.Responds to manufacturing issues on a daily basis to make determination of root cause of any manufacturing process problems or engineering specification conflicts with manufacturability of the product, and take appropriate action.Assign accurate process costs and costing standards in SAP, including labor standard costs, to all manufactured items. Provides costing estimates to sales for quoting purposes when requested.Reviews and approves all Engineering Requests on behalf of Harlan CoE manufacturing to assure that routings are properly established for all components, sub-assemblies, and final assemblies produced by the Harlan CoE. Assures that design outputs (engineering drawings and specifications) contain the information necessary for production personnel to manufacture product that will conform to customer requirements.Following the Plant Manager's direction, assists with development of fixture designs, tooling, and processes/assembly methods. Must be able to convert these designs into drawings for fabrication or the ability to produce components.Utilizing data from SAP, time/labor analysis, material costs/quotes, and the knowledge of the Plant Manager, works to learn and thoroughly understand the costs involved with producing products and identify opportunities for improvement.Identify costs associated with manufacturing processes and propose investments/improvements and justify the need.Assist the Plant Manager in support of 6S efforts by developing solutions to problems presented.Analyzes activities and processes for inaccuracies and/or labor inefficiencies as assigned by the Plant Manager.Performs "make" or "buy" analyses as assigned by the Plant Manager. Provides support to Plant Manager by gathering data/quotes for make vs. buy analyses.Works closely with engineering to ensure products are designed around manufacturing capabilities. Be willing to share knowledge of production capabilities with the applications engineers. Performs primary ER review and brings questions/concerns to Plant Manager/Engineering attention for direction and approval authorization when uncertainty exists or potential problems or concerns exist around manufacturability vs. design specs.Conveys information related to employee performance to area supervisors.Seeks out new opportunities on a daily basis.Proactively supports and promotes the Quality Policy throughout the organization, as demonstrated by day-to-day actions and decision-making.Strives to do error-free work.Upholds the Core Values.
